The Nuremberg Christkindlesmarkt is arguably one of the most famous Christmas markets in the world. Set in the heart of Nuremberg’s medieval Old Town, this market draws visitors from all over the globe with its long history, which dates back to the 16th century. In fact nearby are two Christmas markets one, is medival style.
„You men and women who were once children, are children again today,“ says the Christ Child at the opening of the Nuremberg Christmas market. And he is right, because with a little childlike joy in Christmas tree decorations, tinsel angels, wooden nutcrackers, nativity scenes and colorful stars, you will enjoy strolling through the romantically lit Christmas market twice as much.
The Christmas market has a seductive aroma of gingerbread, mulled wine and grilled sausages. First mentioned in 1628, its roots probably go back to Luther’s time, when the tradition of giving children presents at Christmas developed. The 180 wooden stalls, decorated with red and white fabric, still sell traditional goods such as hand-made Christmas decorations and culinary delicacies. Stroll through the festively lit stalls and let yourself be enchanted by the unmistakable atmosphere.
